Jumper pattern experiment V2

Tension
Stocking stitch: 30 stitches x 44 rows = 10cm2 on tension 7
1x1 Rib: 37 stitches x 50 rows = 10cm2 on tension 2

Materials
Any 4ply or sport weight yarn would be suitable

Instructions
N.B. The tension numbers and needle position letters given are for Brother machines. Please refer to your manual if you use a different type of machine.

Back
  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 121 stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 40 rows on tension 2.
  • Knit 90 rows in stocking stitch on tension 7.
  • Cast off first 10 stitches and knit the remaining stitches in the row (twice).
  • Decrease 4 stitches at each end of every 6th row for next 66 rows.
  • Put all remaining stitches onto waste yarn and remove from the machine.
Front

  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 121 stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 40 rows on tension 2.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Knit 50 rows in stocking stitch on tension 7.
  • Increase 1 stitch at each side every 4th row for 30 rows.
  • Hold first 15 stitches at each end and change holding lever to 'H' and knit 2 rows.
  • Add 2 more needles to hold position at each end and knit 2 rows (4 times). 
  • Move 2 centre-most held needles to work position and knit 2 rows (5 times).
  • Knit 4 rows. 
  • Cast off first 10 stitches and knit the remaining stitches in the row (twice).
  • Decrease 4 stitches at each end and knit 6 rows.
  • Move all needles to the right of '0' on the needle bed to the hold position and knit 1 row.
  • Move right-most 2 needles to hold position and knit 1 row (5 times).
  • **Decrease 4 at left and move right-most 2 needes into hold position and knit 1 row. 
  • Move right-most 2 needles into hold position and knit 1 row (5 times). 
  • Repeat from ** twice more. 
  • Put all needles back to work position.
  • Move all needles to the left of '0' on the needle bed to the hold position and knit 1 row.
  • Move left-most 2 needles to hold position and knit 1 row (5 times).
  • **Decrease 4 at right and move left-most 2 needes into hold position and knit 1 row. 
  • Move left-most 2 needles into hold position and knit 1 row (5 times). 
  • Repeat from ** twice more. 
  • Put all needles back to work position ad knit 1 row.
  • Put every 2nd stitch back onto ribber bed. 
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 6 rows. 
  • Chain stitch cast off.
Sleeves (make 2)
  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 74 stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 40 rows on tension 2 using knit in elastic for first 6 rows.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Knit 40 rows in stocking stitch on tension 7.
  • Increase 1 stitch at each side every 10th row for 120 rows.
  • Cast off first 10 stitches and knit the remaining stitches in the row (twice).
  • Decrease 3 stitches at each end of every 6th row for 30 rows.
  • Decrease 4 stitches at each end of every 6th row for 36 rows.
  • Put final stitch onto waste yarn.

Back neck
  • Align raglan edges and sew both sleeves to back. 
  • Align front raglan edges to sleeves and make a mark where front neckline meets sleeve on both sides. 
  • Re-hook back onto needles and remove waste yarn. 
  • Follow from neck edge to hook raglan sleeve edge onto needles until you reach marks.
  • Knit 1 row in stocking stitch. 
  • Put every 2nd stitch back onto ribber bed. 
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 6 rows. 
  • Chain stitch cast off.

Making up
  • Align raglan edges and sew both front sleeve edges to front ensuring that neck ribbing meets. 
  • Sew sleeve edges together from cuff to armpit. 
  • sew side seams from hem to armpit.
