Baby Jumper experiment V2

Tension
Stocking stitch: 30 stitches x 44 rows = 10cm2 on tension 7
1x1 Rib: 37 stitches x 50 rows = 10cm2 on tension 2

Materials
Any 4ply or sport weight yarn would be suitable

Instructions
N.B. The tension numbers and needle position letters given are for Brother machines. Please refer to your manual if you use a different type of machine.

Back
  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 67 stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 10 rows on tension 2.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Knit 31 rows in stocking stitch on tension 7.
  • Cast off first 6 stitches and knit the remaining stitches in the row (twice).
  • Decrease 2 stitches at each end of every 4th row for next 32 rows.
  • Put all remaining stitches onto waste yarn and remove from the machine.
Front
  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 67 stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 10 rows on tension 2.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Knit 31 rows in stocking stitch on tension 7.
  • Cast off first 6 stitches and knit the remaining stitches in the row (twice).
  • Decrease 2 stitches at each end of every 4th row for next 24 rows.
Shape right side of neckline
  • Move all needles to the left of '0' on the needle bed to the hold position.
  • Decrease 2 at right and move left-most 3 needles into hold position and knit 1 row
  • Move left-most needle to hold position and knit 1 row (3 times).
  • Decrease 2 at right and move left-most needle into hold position and knit 1 row
  • Move left-most needle to hold position and knit 1 row (3 times).
  • Put remaining stitches into hold position.
Shape left side of neckline
  • Move all needles to the left of '0' on the needle back into work position.
  • Decrease 2 at left and move right-most 3 needles into hold position and knit 1 row
  • Move right-most needle to hold position and knit 1 row (3 times).
  • Decrease 2 at left and move right-most needle into hold position and knit 1 row
  • Move right-most needle to hold position and knit 1 row (3 times).
  • Put all stitches back into work position and knit one row.
  • Put all stitches onto waste yarn and remove from the machine.
Sleeves (make 2)
  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 39 stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 10 rows on tension 2.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Knit 10 rows in stocking stitch on tension 7.
  • Increase 1 stitch at each side, then knit 10 rows (3 times).
  • Knit 8 rows.
  • Cast off first 6 stitches and knit the remaining stitches in the row (twice).
  • Decrease 2 stitches at each end of every 4th row for next 16 rows.
  • Decrease 1 stitches at each end of every 4th row for next 16 rows.
  • Put all remaining stitches onto waste yarn and remove from the machine.
Neck opening
  • Hook right raglan edge of front onto needles. 
  • Knit 1 row in stocking stitch. 
  • Put every 2nd stitch onto ribber bed.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 6 rows creating 2 buttonholes (details to be finalised)
  • Chain stitch cast off.

Neckline
  • Join raglan seams excluding front right.
  • Hook the stitches back onto needles and hook edge of neck opening onto needles too. 
  • Knit 1 row in stocking stitch. 
  • Put every 2nd stitch onto ribber bed.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 6 rows creating 1 buttonhole close to front right edge. (details to be finalised)
  • Chain stitch cast off.
Making up 
  • Sew sleeve edges together from cuff to armpit. 
  • sew side seams from hem to armpit.
  • Sew on buttons at neck opening.
