Final Baby Jumper with a range of size options

Sizing
This pattern is for a baby jumper in 6 sizes from tiny newborn to 24 months. Instructions for the larger sizes will be shown in brackets in ascending order. The size range with chest measurements is listed below:

  • Tiny newborn: 30.5cm
  • Newborn - 3 months: 40.5cm
  • 3 - 6 months: 43cm
  • 6 - 12 months: 45.5cm
  • 12 - 18 months: 48cm
  • 18 - 24 months: 50.5cm 

Tension
Stocking stitch: 30 stitches x 44 rows = 10cm2 on tension 7
1x1 Rib: 37 stitches x 50 rows = 10cm2 on tension 2

Materials
Any 4ply or sport weight yarn would be suitable

Instructions
N.B. The tension numbers and needle position letters given are for Brother machines. Please refer to your manual if you use a different type of machine.

Back
  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 63 (65, 67, 71, 75, 79) stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 10 rows on tension 2.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Knit 31 (32, 37, 42, 46, 49) rows in stocking stitch on tension 7.
  • Cast off first 2 stitches and knit the remaining stitches in the row (twice).
  • Knit 28 (33, 37, 39, 41, 43) in stocking stitch on tension 7
Shape right side of neckline
  • Move all needles to the left of '0' on the needle bed to the hold position.
  • Move left-most 7 (8, 9, 10, 11, 12) needles into hold position and knit 1 row
  • Move left-most 3 needles to hold position and knit 1 row (7 times).
  • Put all stitches into hold position.
Shape left side of neckline
  • Move all needles to the left of '0' on the needle back into work position.
  • Move right-most 7 (8, 9, 10, 11, 12) needles into hold position and knit 1 row
  • Move right-most 3 needles to hold position and knit 1 row (7 times).
  • Put all stitches back into work position and knit one row.
  • Put every 2nd stitch back onto ribber bed and knit 7 rows in 1x1 rib. 
  • Transfer all stitches back onto top bed and cast off.
Front
  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 63 (65, 67, 71, 75, 79) stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 10 rows on tension 2.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Knit 31 (32, 37, 42, 46, 49) rows in stocking stitch on tension 7.
  • Cast off first 2 stitches and knit the remaining stitches in the row (twice).
  • Knit 20 (25, 32, 33, 36, 39) rows in stocking stitch on tension 7
Shape right side of neckline
  • Move all needles to the left of '0' on the needle bed to the hold position.
  • Move left-most 3 (4, 5, 6, 7, 8) needles into hold position and knit 1 row
  • Move left-most 2 needles to hold position and knit 1 row (13 times).
  • Put all stitches into hold position.

Shape left side of neckline
  • Move all needles to the left of '0' on the needle back into work position.
  • Move right-most 3 (4, 5, 6, 7, 8) needles into hold position and knit 1 row
  • Move right-most 2 needles to hold position and knit 1 row (13 times).
  • Put all stitches back into work position and knit one row.
  • Put every 2nd stitch back onto ribber bed and knit 7 rows in 1x1 rib. 
  • Transfer all stitches back onto top bed and cast off.
Sleeves (make 2)
  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 37 (39, 41, 43, 45, 47)  stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 10 rows on tension 2.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Knit 20 (26, 31, 32, 38, 33)  rows in stocking stitch on tension 7.
  • Increase 1 stitch at each side, then knit 10 rows (3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5) times).
  • Decrease 1 stitch at each end and knit 1 row (twice).
  • Put all remaining stitches onto waste yarn and remove from the machine.

    Making up 
    • sew sleeves onto shoulder seams,, starting at decrease points on back and front. Overlap the back neckline over the front.
    • Sew sleeve edges together from cuff to armpit. 
    • sew side seams from hem to armpit.
