Vintage style top V1

Tension
Stocking stitch: 33 stitches x 44 rows = 10cm2 on tension 5
1x1 Rib: 37 stitches x 53 rows = 10cm2 on tension 2

Materials
3ply cotton or similar

Instructions
N.B. The tension numbers and needle position letters given are for Brother machines. Please refer to your manual if you use a different type of machine.

Back
  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 141 stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 40 rows on tension 2.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Knit 100 rows in stocking stitch on tension 5.
  • Set up lace knitting carriage and punch card.
  • Knit 72 rows in lace stitch on tension 5.
  • Put every 2nd stitch back onto ribber bed. 
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 6 rows. 
  • Cast off.
Front

  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 141 stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 40 rows on tension 2.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Knit 60 rows in stocking stitch on tension 5.
  • Increase 1 stitch at each side every 4th row for 28 rows.
  • Knit 12 rows in stocking stitch on tension 5.
  • Cast off first 10 stitches and knit the remaining stitches in the row (twice).
  • Set up lace knitting carriage and punch card.
  • Knit 72 rows in lace stitch on tension 5.
  • Put every 2nd stitch back onto ribber bed. 
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 6 rows. 
  • Cast off.
Armhole edging (Make 2)
  • Starting with the carriage on the right, cast on 151 stitches using the broken toe cast on, in 1x1 rib using the lowest tension.
  • Knit 1x1 rib for 6 rows on tension 2.
  • Transfer all stitches to the top bed and drop the ribber bed out of use.
  • Put all stitches onto waste yarn.
Making up
  • Steam block front and back.
  • Align neck edges and sew shoulder seams together for 10 cm from each side. 
  • Align edging pieces with armhole, centred from shoulder seam and sew in place.
  • Sew side seams from hem to armpit.
